The King is Coming!
As we leave the Christmas season it is sometimes a struggle to remember what it was all about. We were surrounded by the secular trappings of the season, food, presents decorations, and while these are all good things they sometimes mask the story that we should be focusing on. The story of the birth of a baby, born into poverty, away from his home and soon to be a refugee in a foreign land. This is a story that may resonate with some of the young people we meet each week. As move into the New Year let us remember that Jesus our King loves each and every one of the young people we come into contact with through Space and let us hold them in our prayers.
Please enjoy our latest newsletter and catch up with what we have been doing over the last few months!

Our existing groups continue to grow and develop as you will see from the various reports. However we are aware that there are still many areas of our city where Kidz Klub works with children and there is no follow-on provision for them as they move to High School.
We continue to pray about how to tackle this issue.
Citywide Awayday October 2017
This year’s citywide awayday saw us taking 23 of our younger kids to Fanwood Scout Activity Centre near Gomersal. We had a great day despite the weather which was not the bright, sunny, warm day we might have hoped for.
We took part in crate stacking, explored an indoor cave system, got muddy following a night line, played some games together and shared a BBQ lunch. The kids all got on well – by the end they were even mixing across the two groups, Beeston and Halton Moor.
We must say a big thank you to all the leaders who gave up their time to come with us and also to Banny, the warden at Fanwood who was really helpful in putting together the programme.

HALTON MOOR: Halton Moor Space is a growing, lively group. With the new school year we have several new members who have become too old for Kidz Klub. They have joined our exisiting group and we regularly have 10-12 young people at the meetings. We have had some interesting discussions and are starting to look at some of the Youth Alpha material.
As the group grows in size we are outgrowing our current venue. It is a lovely room and always warm but there is no room to run around and let off energy which is necessary with lively 11-14 year olds. We are investigating possible new venues and hope to change our meeting place before Easter.
Please pray that a venue change will be a smooth transition. Also pray for the leadership team as we look to develop our relationships with these kids and support them as best we can. Pray for wisdom and patience!

BEESTON YEAR 7:
We have had a great time getting to know our new Y7 Space group and the group is really starting to grow and develop. A real highlight for us has been our trip to the West Yorkshire Playhouse to see The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Our young people were engrossed in the play and we look forward to chatting to them over the coming weeks about the deeper meaning of the story.

BEESTON YEAR 8 group has been good. We have explored the 4 points of Kidz Klub and also used films to learn about ourselves, life & God. The youngsters have adjusted well to being indoors due to darker nights. The weekly team challenges have been a lot of fun! We enjoyed the trip to Fanwood Scout Centre and the Mission United Comedy Night. A monthly Deeper Space group has started and some kids are also connecting with local church activities.

We’ve had a slightly quieter term with our year 9 group mostly down, we think, to the darker nights meaning it’s more difficult for us to play big games outside. Over the last few weeks we have been on a couple of trips which have been thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Firstly we went to Jump Inc Arena for an evening of trampolining and secondly, as with our other groups, we went to the theatre to watch The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The production was amazing and the young people absolutely loved it.
BEESTON Y10-12: This group is doing fine. Year 10 have become integrated well. We typically get 15-20 young people – we took some of them to see a gritty play called The Shed Crew which they wrote up for South Leeds Life. We took them to Light Night again and up to 40 of us went to see a performance of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe at the Playhouse; we have also joined in with the Beeston Lantern festival, always a great lead-up to Christmas! Bag-packing at Morrisons with our willing youngsters raised over £400. Sarah is hoping to do Romance Academy with some of them in the new year.Relationships continue to deepen and as they get older, the sessions become increasingly chilled. Prayer always welcome!

We are very grateful to those of you who support us financially. We couldn’t continue without you. We have been very fortunate with our grant applications this year and have received generous support from several Churches. We have also been selected as a Co-op local cause in Beeston so if you have Co-op membership please go on-line and select us as your local cause.
However we cannot rest on our laurels and grant applications will continue to occupy time and energy.
We encourage the kids to support us too and they have been involved in a very successful bag-pack a few weeks ago which is helping to pay for trips to the theatre.
Please pray for…
the areas in the city where we don’t have a presence
an increase in volunteers and support from Churches
continued funding for the project.
and give thanks for the many blessings we have seen this term as new kids have settled into Space groups and relationships develop.
We pray that this will continue.
If you would like to be involved with praying for Space on a regular basis, we have a weekly prayer sheet with ideas for each day which we would be happy to share with you.
A great big THANK-YOU to everyone who supports SPACE, either through volunteering, praying, or giving financially, we couldn’t do it without you!
Have a WONDERFUL 2018!
