About Us

Leeds Space Network (SPACE) run weekly groups for young people at high school in some of the most deprived areas of Leeds. We are closely associated with Kidz Klub Leeds and were set up in 2003 out of a desire to provide somewhere for children to go as they moved to high school and were too old to keep going to Kidz Klub.

SPACE groups provide consistent support and opportunities for young people and empowers them to make the best choices towards a better future. We focus on the all-round development of these young people and proactively nurture their social, personal, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. During our weekly meetings there are games and craft activities as well as a time to discuss issues which affect the young people we are working with. We also provide regular trips and residential opportunities.

Space groups are led by volunteers who represent a variety churches and Christian communities from across Leeds. Over 80 young people aged 11-19 attend four Space groups each week. Alongside the weekly groups leaders regularly carry out home visits to strengthen relationships with young people and their families.
Since 2003 Space has impacted eleven inner-city communities in Leeds – Beeston, Bramley, Burley, Burmantofts, Cottingley, Crossgates, Gipton, Halton Moor, Harehills, Hyde Park & Osmondthorpe. Each of these communities is unique but many share similar challenges and require positive input. We are currently active in Beeston, Halton Moor, Osmondthorpe and Bramley.

Space believes in the positive potential of the young people of this city and we
have hope for a new future for individuals and communities.

“Space is like a big family.
Despite our differences or
problems we look out for each other and share the ups and downs together.”

Young person

“Space supports my children with any problems they have, builds their confidence and gives them experiences that they wouldn’t have otherwise. They’ve experienced the diversity of our area and mixed with a variety of people. When they come back and tell me what they are doing, that has made me want to be a better person.”
Parent

“Space gives help, support and advice to young people at the most important time in their lives as they move from childhood into
adulthood.”

Social

Weekly SPACE groups provide a safe place for teenagers from inner city communities to come together, meet new people and share new experiences.

Groups are fully inclusive and welcome teenagers from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. They reflect the diverse communities where they are based which means it is a great environment to break down social barriers and embrace the diversity of our city.

Personal & Emotional

The groups explore issues relevant to young people and provide advice and support where appropriate. Issues include healthy living, friendship, respect, selfesteem, emotional awareness, dealing with conflict and communication skills.
Where appropriate SPACE also provides opportunities for young people to participate in one to one mentoring sessions allowing for them to receive focused support.

Spiritual

SPACE groups are run by representatives from a variety of churches and Christian communities across Leeds who demonstrate Christian values and principles through their actions and words.

SPACE provides opportunities for young people to explore the Christian faith and the positive impact it could have on their lives. Leeds Space Network partners with local churches, Christian organisations and events to do this effectively.
